HomeSecurityCCTV Coverage & Storage Planner

📹 CCTV coverage & storage planner

Plan a CCTV system in two steps: estimate how many cameras each zone needs to reach your surveillance goal (Detect / Observe / Recognise / Identify per IEC 62676-4 DORI), then size the recording storage in terabytes from resolution, frame rate, hours/day, retention and H.265 compression. Exports to Word, CSV and print.

Project
Part 1 · Coverage by zone (DORI)

Add each area to cover. The planner computes the maximum distance at which the selected DORI pixel-density target is met for the chosen camera, then estimates how many cameras the zone needs from its dimensions.

Part 2 · Recording storage

⚠️ This is a planning estimate based on IEC 62676-4 DORI pixel-density targets (Detect ≈25, Observe ≈62, Recognise ≈125, Identify ≈250 px/m) and typical H.264/H.265 bitrates. Real coverage depends on lens distortion, mounting height/tilt, scene geometry, lighting and the actual camera; real storage depends on scene activity, bitrate caps and the recorder. Confirm every figure with the manufacturer's lens calculator, a bitrate/storage tool and an on-site survey before purchasing.
