Build a qualitative bowtie barrier analysis: define the hazard and the top event, list the threats and consequences, and place preventive and recovery barriers between them. Renders an auto-layout bowtie diagram and a barrier register. Export the diagram (SVG), the register (Word), print or save as JSON. Qualitative only — no LOPA / PFD scoring.
Each threat is a cause that could trigger the top event. Add the preventive barriers that stop it.
Each consequence is an outcome if the top event happens. Add the mitigative / recovery barriers that reduce it.
A bowtie is a visual barrier-based risk method. The knot in the middle is the top event (loss of control of a hazard); threats on the left can cause it, consequences on the right can follow it, and barriers sit on each path to prevent or limit the event.
⚠️ This is a qualitative bowtie/barrier-mapping aid, not a quantified study — it does not calculate LOPA, PFD or a numeric risk rank, and is not legal advice. Barrier criticality here is a manual judgement; validate it against your standards and a quantitative method where required. Verify the analysis against your site, the applicable standards (e.g. ISO 31000, CCPS/Energy Institute bowtie guidance, Seveso III / COMAH where relevant) and the current official requirements, and have a competent person review the result before use.
